Saffron Beach

2nd-Oct-2021

There shouldn't be much between Mother Earth and Snow Lantern in the Sun Chariot Stakes, of the pair I prefer Mother Earth, but I think that Saffron Beach is the over-priced filly in the race.

Winner of her two races last year as a juvenile, both over seven furlongs on the Rowley Mile, the latter the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes, Jane Chapple-Hyam’s filly ran a big race in the Guineas on her second run this season.  She raced towards the near side that day from her high draw, and she kept on well to get to within a length of Mother Earth, who raced towards the far side.

Saffron Beach was well beaten in the Oaks, when the distance and the ground were just all too much for her, and she was beaten again in the Falmouth Stakes, but she scoped poorly after that race.  She bounced back to form last time at Sandown, in the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes, when she stayed on powerfully and ran out an impressive winner.

The runner-up from that race has since come out and won a Group 3 race in France, while the third filly has since won a Listed race at Yarmouth.

Saffron Beach has to step forward again now if she is going to beat Mother Earth and Snow Lantern, but she goes into the race on an upward trajectory, she goes well on easy ground, and her record on the Rowley Mile reads 1122.  She could go close.

SAFFRON BEACH WON (ADV 7/1, SP 5/1
