Bun Doran
27th-Dec-2019
This is a really interesting race, the Desert Orchid Chase often is, but I don’t think that Bun Doran should be as far behind the top three in the betting as he is.
Tom George’s horse ran a cracker at Newbury last time to finish second behind Magic Saint. He was weak in the market beforehand, and he raced up with a fast pace. Also, he lost momentum on landing over the final fence, but for which he might have won. He was only beaten a head in the end.
That was his seasonal debut and, especially given his weakness in the market, there is every chance that he will progress from it. He doesn’t have that much to find on official ratings with Sceau Royal and Duc Des Genievres, and they both have to give him weight. Also, they both go into the race on the back of below-par efforts, whereas Bun Doran goes into it on the back of a good run, and Jonathan Burke takes over in the saddle. There are lots of positives and it is worth chancing him at a decent price.
BUN DORAN WON (ADV 15/2, SP 4/1)
