Our Champ

2nd-Nov-2024

I am taking a chance on Our Champ here.  I think that he is over-priced at 12/1 or 14/1.

Chris Gordon’s horse ran well for a long way in the Betfair Hurdle last February, his first run back after a wind operation, and he stepped forward from that next time at Plumpton when, ridden just behind the pace and wider than ideal early on, he ran out an impressive winner of the Sussex Champion Hurdle.

Raised by 8lb for that win, he did well to finish a close-up third at Cheltenham’s April meeting next time, given that he was harried on the front end for much of the race.

He returned from his summer break at Market Rasen five weeks ago, and he ran okay.  That run should have brought him forward for today.  He has top weight, but Freddie Gordon takes off a useful 5lb, and he could just out-class his rivals.  I like his prominent style of racing too, that is a positive in two-mile hurdles at Ascot.  If he can sit just behind the early pace early on, that would be ideal, and he goes well on good ground.

OUR CHAMP WON (ADV 14/1, SP 10/1)
