Vera’s Secret

14th-Sept-2024

This is obviously competitive, a new fillies’ handicap, but I think that Vera’s Secret’s chance has been under-rated by the market.

John Feane’s filly didn’t win in three attempts last season, but she ran well in defeat twice, and she was really impressive in winning a fillies’ handicap at The Curragh on her debut this season off a mark of 68, beating her much better-fancied stable companion Indigo Five into third place.

Raised by 17lb for that win, she was still sent off at a relatively short price for the Irish Cambridgeshire last time.  She only finished 13th that day, but she can be marked up significantly on the bare form of that run.  She was prominent from early, and she raced along the inside rail, in a race that was dominated by the horses who came late and wide, including the winner Wigmore Street, who came latest and widest.  And Vera’s Secret led until the furlong marker.

She does like to go forward, but she wears a hood today for the first time, and hopefully that will help her settle.

VERA’S SECRET WON (ADV 12/1, SP 10/1)
