Believing
8th-Jun-2024
Live In The Dream is the correct favourite for this, but I think that he is a fair bit shorter than he should be. This can’t be his primary objective this season, a listed race in early June, and I don’t think that he has as much in hand of his rivals as the market suggests.
Consequently, I think that several of his rivals are slightly over-priced, including Pink Crystal and Democracy Dilemma, but the most over-priced horse in my book is Believing.
George Boughey’s filly was progressive last season, and she ran a big race in the Group 1 Sprint Cup over six furlongs at Haydock in September when she finished third behind Regional. She raced on the near side there, away from Regional and runner-up Shoudvebeenaring, so she did well to keep on as well as she did to get as close as she did. She was a big price that day, but she was supplemented to the race for £20,000, so connections obviously had a high opinion of her going into the race.
She was well beaten next time in the Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot, but that was on soft ground, and you can easily allow her her run in Hong Kong in April in a Group 1 race. She has form on soft ground, but she won a listed race at Pontefract last year on fast ground, so she should be fine on today’s ground. There is every chance that she can step forward again.
BELIEVING WON (ADV 15/2, SP 5/1)
