Giavellotto
17th-May-2024
You can see why Tower Of London has been put in short for the Yorkshire Cup. He was good in winning in Saudi Arabia and in Dubai, and he could morph into one of the top stayers this season. However, this is his first run since Dubai, it will probably bring him forward with next month’s Gold Cup in mind.
By contrast, this is probably Giavellotto’s primary objective. He won the race last year, when he was keen enough early on, and he wasn’t beaten far by Tower Of London in Saudi or in Dubai in the Dubai Gold Cup. He was conceding 6lb to Tower Of London that day, and he gets 3lb from him today.
More importantly, he is back at York and back over a mile and six furlongs. He was keen over two miles in his last four runs, he is a keen-going sort, but the drop back down in trip is in his favour.
Also, he goes well at York. In two runs there, he has won a Yorkshire Cup and finished third in a Lonsdale Cup, again over two miles when he was keen early on.
Vauban is fascinating, having his first run since the Melbourne Cup in November, but Giavellotto is the bet.
