Witch Hunter

19th-Aug-2023

Chindit is obviously the standard-setter in the Hungerford Stakes, and you can easily make the case for him, but he is priced up just about right, and he was well beaten in this race last year when sent off as second favourite.

I am taking him on at the prices with Witch Hunter. Richard Hannon’s horse was a game winner of the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, and he has been in fine form since.

His last three runs, all in listed or Group 3 races, were all good, and last time at Pontefract, ridden patiently to get the trip, the mile and the pull up to the winning line probably stretched him.

He should be happier today, back over seven furlongs. He can be slowly away, he is usually held up, but Sean Levey can be a little more aggressive on him over today’s trip. He handles an ease in the ground, and he finished second, beaten a neck, in a maiden on his racecourse debut on his only run to date at Newbury.

WITCH HUNTER WON (ADV 10/1, SP 12/1)
