Gentleman De Mee

5th-Feb-2023

We have already taken a chance on Gentleman De Mee at a big price for the Champion Chase, and I think that it is worthwhile getting him on side for today’s race too at the price.

You have to forgive him his three runs this season to date, and there is a chance that he just isn’t the horse that he was last spring, but that could be the key to him: spring ground and spring weather.  The ground should be yielding today, no worse, and that could be important to him, and the weather is threatening to be spring-like these days.

He was seriously progressive in the spring of last season, he won his beginners’ chase at Thurles in February by 34 lengths and he bolted up in the Grade 3 Flyinbolt Chase in March, before going to Aintree and beating Edwardstone in the Grade 1 Maghull Chase.

Edwardstone may have under-performed a little that day, but only a little, the Arkle winner and the Tingle Creek winner who is now one of the best two-mile chasers in training.  If Gentleman De Mee can get back close to that form today, he could give Blue Lord a real race.
