Jimi Hendrix

9th-Jul-2022

Jimi Hendrix is favourite here, but I think that he is a deserving favourite, and that he should be shorter than the 11/4 at which we can back him.

He is a quirky individual, but his last two runs have been his two best, and he goes into this race on an upward curve. He did well to win a one-mile handicap at Haydock on his penultimate run off a handicap rating of 83, coming from the rear and coming wide on a day on which it was an advantage to race prominently and against the inside rail. And he stepped forward from that last time when he ran a big race to finish third in the Britannia at Royal Ascot off a mark of 87.

He raced prominently that day at a track at which, and in a race in which, it was an advantage to be held up. He proved that day that he could handle fast conditions too.

Similar tactics will be an advantage today, and a 5lb hike was not harsh. He remains potentially well handicapped still on a mark of 92.

JIMI HENDRIX WON (ADV 11/4, SP 5/2)
