Hukum

I am backing Hukum in the Coronation Cup.  I don’t think that he should be as far behind Manobo and Pyledriver in the market as he is.

Owen Burrows’ horse was a highly progressive horse last season.  He won three of his last four races last season, and he wasn’t right when he was beaten by Hamish in the September Stakes at Kempton in September.

His best performance was in the Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot on his final run of the season, and that was on soft ground, so any softening of the ground today will be in his favour, but he proved that he could operate on good ground too when he won the Geoffrey Freer Stakes and the Silver Cup earlier in the season.  He stays a mile and six furlongs, but his best performances have been over today’s trip of a mile and a half.

He finished only seventh in the Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan the last time we saw him, but he was only beaten a total of less than two lengths, and he wasn’t suited by the sedate early pace.  There is every chance that he will be able to make up the three parts of a length by which Pyledriver beat him that day, hopefully with High Definition setting a decent tempo.

He is a danger, as is Pyledriver, as is Manobo, who was game in winning the Prix Chaudenay at Longchamp on Arc weekend last October.  However, he is short, and he may be vulnerable over today’s shorter trip.

HUKUM WON (ADV 5/1, SP 11/4)
