Ahoy Senor

8th-Apr-2022

I think that Ahoy Senor is a fair way over-priced here.  I don’t think that he should be as far behind L’Homme Presse and Bravemansgame in the market as he is.

They are obviously both high-class novices, and Bravemansgame skipped Cheltenham so comes here fresh, and L’Homme Presse beat Ahoy Senor by three and a half lengths at Cheltenham.  However, there are reasons for believing that Ahoy Senor can beat the pair of them.

For starters, he beat Bravemansgame in the Sefton Hurdle at Aintree last year.  Bravemansgame exacted his revenge in the Kauto Star Chase at Kempton at Christmas, but Kempton was never going to be a suitable track for Ahoy Senor.  He should be better now, back at Aintree, and hopefully leading and making it a true test of stamina.

He can exact his revenge on L’Homme Presse too.  His jumping was not good at Cheltenham, and he made a bad mistake at the third last fence, at a crucial stage of the race.  He did well to get back into the race, and to run on as well as he did to finish second.  Also, the better ground today should be in his favour and against L’Homme Presse.

It is a really fascinating race between the three of them, and Fury Road wouldn’t be far off them if he put it in today, which is not always guaranteed.  But Ahoy Senor is the value of the race in my book.

AHOY SENOR WON (ADV 6/1, SP 4/1)
