Royal Rendezvous

27th-Apr-2022

… Royal Rendezvous was disappointing in the Topham Chase last time, but he never got into a rhythm there, he didn’t take to the big fences, so you can easily allow him that.  That run is obviously influencing his odds today, but he is much better judged on his Galway Plate win, and he is only 7lb higher today.

Also, he was a game winner of the Grade 2 PWC Champion Chase at Gowran Park in October, and he didn’t run badly against Fakir D’Oudairies in the Clonmel Oil Chase in November, when he had Easy Game behind him.  He is probably at his best going right-handed on goodish ground, and that’s what he has today.

I do like Egality Mans as a horse, but I think that he is at his best on easier ground, and Paul Townend prefers Royal Rendezvous.  Snugsborough Hall and Cavalry Master were also on my shortlist at the prices, but I am happy that Fancy Foundations and Royal Rendezvous represent the best value in the race.
