Royal Patronage
25th-Sept-2021
I am not sure that Royal Patronage got the credit that he should have got for winning the Acomb Stakes at York last time.
Mark Johnston’s horse was a 25/1 shot going into the race, but he was the winner on merit. He got out in front, he picked up well and he stayed on strongly all the way to the line. Some of his more fancied rivals may have under-performed, but he always looked likely to win, and the form received a nice boost when fourth-placed Noble Truth beat Hoo Ya Mal in the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster next time.
The step up from seven furlongs to a mile should be a positive for Royal Patronage, he is bred for further than seven furlongs and he races like he will appreciate further. Jason Hart is two for two on him, and his forward-going style is well suited to Newmarket. He should run well.
ROYAL PATRONAGE WON (ADV 100/30)
