Forbearance

24th-Sept-2021

It is a pity that Albaflora has come out of the Princess Royal Stakes, but it’s not wholly surprising.  Forbearance is obviously a shorter price now in Albaflora’s absence, and Ralph Beckett’s filly was vulnerable on the quickening ground, which is probably why she has been taken out.

I still think that it is worth backing Forbearance though, even at the shorter price.  Jessica Harrington’s filly has improved dramatically this season as a four-year-old.  She raced just once at two and once more at three, and she started this season on a mark of 79.  Indeed, she won a handicap at Down Royal in June off a mark of 76, but she hasn’t looked back since.

She battled on well to win the Listed Galtres Stakes at York’s Ebor meeting last month, and she stepped forward from that last time when she finished a close-up third behind Camorra in the Group 3 12-furlong contest at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend.

She was keen enough early on that day, and Camorra got first run on her when they straightened up in the home straight.  Ger Lyons’ horse kicked from the front, whereas Shane Foley had to extricate Forbearance from a little pocket on the inside rail before they could get out after the leader.

This 12-furlong trip is a good trip for her, she goes well on fast ground, and she could step forward again today.  She has raced just eight times in her life.  And her trainer’s horses are in sparkling form these days.

Sea La Rosa is a really likeable and progressive filly, and Golden Pass is a classy filly, dropping back down to a mile and a half.  They are both dangers, but Forbearance is the bet.

FORBEARANCE WON (ADV 5/1, SP 4/1)
