Mosala
8th-Jul-2021
This is another really competitive race, and you can make cases for Baby Zeus and Tauran Shaman and Mirann, but I think that Mosala could run very well and that he is over-priced.
He ran a big race over today’s course and distance in May to finish second to Tauran Shaman. That was his first run since January, and he had a slightly wider trip than the winner, and he meets him on 2lb better terms, and all of that gives him a big chance of finding the neck by which he was beaten.
As well as that, he ran much better than the bare form of the run suggests last time in the Ragusa Handicap at The Curragh. It was a day on which it was difficult to make ground from the rear, and the winner and second, Effernock Fizz and Vultan, raced prominently from early. Mosala made inroads from the back, but his run flattened out a bit inside the last furlong over that 12-furlong trip.
He should be happier back over 10 furlongs today, and he should be happy back at Leopardstown, where he ran that big race in May in a race that has worked out really well since.
Mirann may prefer a longer trip and Baby Zeus may prefer softer ground. Tauran Shaman could be Mosala’s biggest danger, but Henry de Bromhead’s horse is the bet.
MOSALA WON (ADV 8/1 [R4], SP 8/1 [R4])
