Surefire

17th-Jun-2021

I am backing Surefire in the King George Handicap.  He is just a well-handicapped horse and he has the potential to go beyond even his new rating.

He races under a 6lb penalty today for winning at Leicester last Monday, but the handicapper has raised him by 9lb for that, so he is 3lb well-in today.  More than that, he was impressive in winning that day, he won with lots more than the bare winning margin of three and a half lengths in hand, and he has the potential to go well beyond his new mark of 91.

That was just his fourth run, he should improve for experience anyway, and there is a chance that he will improve again for the step up to a mile and a half today, a trip for which he is bred.

He has just over a length to find with Siskany on their running at Windsor in April, but he is an improved horse since then, and he is 8lb better off with the Godolphin horse, who has also won since.  And I like his draw on the outside over a mile and a half at Ascot.

SUREFIRE WON (ADV 11/2, SP 5/1)
