Oisin Murphy

15th-Jun-2021

We were unlucky last year, that Jim Crowley wasn’t crowned Leading Jockey at Royal Ascot.  Frankie Dettori had to ride a treble on the final day to beat him on countback, they both rode six winners, and that was after Crowley was beaten into second place on Qaader in the Coventry Stakes by the 150/1 shot Nando Parrado, the highest-priced winner at Royal Ascot ever.

Anyway, the rationale for backing Crowley last year at 33/1 is the same rationale as the rationale behind the reasons for backing Oisin Murphy this year.  The expected value of winners from Oisin Murphy's booked rides at current prices is greater than that suggested by the odds on offer about him being Leading Jockey.

Of course, Ryan Moore and Frankie Dettori are the ones to beat, their expected value is higher than everybody else’s, but they are 6/4 and 7/4 respectively.  Oisin Murphy is not as likely to be crowned champion as either of those two, but he shouldn’t be as far behind them in the market as he is in my book.  As well as that, Oisin Murphy is riding very well these days, he had three more winners at Lingfield yesterday, and he goes into Royal Ascot with confidence high.

OISIN MUPRHY WON (ADV 10/1)
