Summerghand
2nd-Apr-2021
I think that Summerghand should be clear favourite for the Sprint. He didn’t have any luck at all in the Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster last Saturday, he just didn’t get the gaps until the race was over.
I always thought that he needed a straight track and a big field and a fast pace to be at his best, as he was when he just failed to catch Hey Jonesy in the Wokingham last June when we had him on side, but he won a six-horse race at Pontefract next time over a turning six furlongs, and his two runs before last Saturday were at Wolverhampton. He didn’t win either, but he ran well in defeat, going down by a neck and three parts of a length in those two races respectively.
With Lord Riddiford and Highland Dress probably set to go forward today from their low draws, there should be a good pace on from early, and that should allow Adam Kirby tuck Summerghand in and deliver him late. Kirby is a really good rider who has a 24% strike rate at Lingfield this year, and he has ridden Summerghand three times now, all this year. This has probably been the plan for a little while, and the fitting of a first-time visor could elicit further progression.
SUMMERGHAND WON (ADV 13/2, SP 6/1)
