Chavi Artist
15th-Nov-2020
I am backing Chavi Aritst in the opening handicap chase at Punchestown. Tom Mullins’ horse has strung together some good runs recently, and he has plenty in his favour today.
He was well beaten by Discordantly at Galway last month, but he did well to finish second. That was a race in which the front two and then the front three had a nice break on the field from early, Chavi Artist had to do a lot of running to get into a challenging position, making a bad mistake at the fourth last fence just when he was making inroads.
He was beaten 13 lenghts in the end by Discordantly, who had raced in second and third, and Discordantly then went and ran a big race in the Troytown Chase to finish fourth off a 10lb higher mark, and he actually ran better there than the bare form of the run suggests.
That was a continuation of Chavi Artist’s good form. He was travelling well in the Munster National when he unseated early on his previous run, and he ran well on his run before that to finish second to Doctor Duffy in the Mayo National at Ballinrobe.
Tom Mullins’ horse gets to race today off his Galway mark of 126, with Jack Foley taking 7lb off, and that is a good mark for him. He handles soft ground well, and two miles and six furlongs at Punchestown is a good test for him. He tired coming up the hill at Galway last time, but this trip at a flatter track should suit him well. He won a handicap chase on soft ground over two and a half miles at the track in January, so he obviously goes well there.
You have to respect A Great View, and Bois De Clamart is a progressive young chaser who could step forward from his Tramore win, and Moyross is working his way towards a win. The soft ground will help him, but I think that he may need more of a stamina test than two miles and six furlongs, even on soft or heavy ground, will provide. Hopefully we will get him when he steps up again to three miles or beyond.
CHAVI ARTIST WON (ADV 7/1, SP 7/1)
