Angel Power
9th-Oct-2020
I am backing Angel Power in the Pride Stakes. I think that she is over-priced at 5/1.
Roger Varian’s filly has progressed with every run this term. After winning on her seasonal debut, she finished second in two handicaps, before stepping forward when she stepped up in trip to 10 furlongs and winning a good fillies’ handicap at York off a mark of 91. She saw out the trip well that day, suggesting that she progressed for the step up in trip.
She kept on well last time too to win a listed race at Longchamp over the same trip on easy ground. That race hasn’t worked out brilliantly so far, but she proved that she could handle easy ground, and she had the Galtres Stakes third Award Scheme well behind her.
Her rating of 103 leaves her with 5lb to find with Franconia, but we haven’t seen John Gosden’s filly since she disappointed behind Love in the Yorkshire Oaks in August. She may be vulnerable over 10 furlongs, and she doesn’t go into the race on the same upward trajectory that Angel Power is on.
Anna Nerium proved that she could stay 10 furlongs at Goodwood last time, but she is more exposed than Angel Power, and Roger Varian’s filly is the bet.
ANGEL POWER WON (ADV 5/1, SP 100/30)
