Cayenne Pepper
14th-Sept-2020
Cayenne Pepper appears to have fallen out of favour a little, and she looks over-priced for the Blandford Stakes.
Jessica Harrington’s filly was a high-class and progressive two-year-old last season. She won the Flame Of Tara Stakes, and she did well to finish fourth in the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket when she didn’t have the run of the race at all.
Second to Magical in the Pretty Polly Stakes on her debut this season, she was put in as favourite for the Irish Oaks, but it appeared that she didn’t quite see out the 12-furlong trip as she gave best to Even So.
Tried over 12 furlongs again last time in the Give Thanks Stakes, again she seemed to lack stamina, she travelled like the most likely winner to the two-furlong pole, but she just couldn’t go on when Tarnawa challenged her.
She should be happier back over 10 furlongs today. It is significant that Shane Foley has chosen to ride her in front of One Voice, and he can ride her aggressively today, he can ask her for her effort a fair way out over this trip, which will probably see her to best effect.
It is a fascinating race, and Bolleville could out-run big odds, but Cayenne Pepper is the bet.
CAYENNE PEPPER WON (ADV 5/1, SP 3/1)
