Miss Amulet
20th-Aug-2020
I think that Miss Amulet has been over-looked a little in the Lowther Stakes.
Ken Condon’s filly doesn’t have the profile that some of her fellow Irish juvenile fillies have, and she was beaten in her first two runs, but she was impressive in winning at Cork on her third run, and she has continued her improvement since then.
She kept on well to finish second to Measure Of Magic at Down Royal on her next run, and she stepped forward significantly from that to win a listed race at Naas last time, exacting her revenge on Measure Of Magic.
She did well to win that day too. She travelled well through her race, she was going best of all at the furlong marker, but she had to be strong to engineer racing room for herself, which she duly did, before going on to win by three parts of a length from Frenetic, with Measure Of Magic over a length back in third.
Perhaps Frenetic wasn’t at her best that day, but she is a really fast filly of Ger Lyons’, she was only just mugged close home in the Group 2 Airlie Stud Stakes by Aloha Star, who was second past the post in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes two weeks ago. Also, Frenetic went out last time and won another listed race at The Curragh.
If Frenetic was in today’s race, she would be a much shorter price than Miss Amulet is. Ken Condon’s filly continues to progress under the radar and, by Sir Prancealot out of a mare who won over six furlongs and a mile, the step up to six furlongs shouldn’t be a negative and it could be a positive.
Her draw in stall eight is fine, ideally it would be lower, but all the market leaders, Sacred, Umm Kulthum and Santosha, are drawn higher, and James Doyle is a great booking.
MISS AMULET WON (ADV 12/1, SP 15/2)
