Silva Eclipse

18th-Jan-2020

This is a competitive contest, but Silva Eclipse is a better horse at Haydock than he is anywhere else, and that probably hasn’t been fully factored into the market yet.

Sue Smith’s horse ran three big races at Haydock in a row last winter.  It has taken him a little while to get going this term, but he stayed on well to win a three-mile handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter in November off a mark of 122, and he ran really well last time on his return to Haydock to finish a good third behind Flashjack in a good handicap hurdle off a mark of 125.

The handicapper dropped him by 1lb for that to a mark of 124.  The ground should be even more testing today than it was then, and that will suit him well.  A proven ability to act on heavy ground at Haydock is a big asset to take into a heavy ground contest at Haydock.

If he can step up just a little on that, if he can return to the form that saw him go down by just a neck to Sykes in a Pertemps qualifier at the track last February (off a mark of 126), that should take him close.

SILVA ECLIPSE WON (ADV 13/2, SP 4/1)
