Cyrname
23rd-Nov-2019
You don’t need to be involved financially in order to enjoy this race, but I think that the betting is wrong, I think that Cyrname should be shorter than he is.
Altior is a remarkable racehorse, he is 19 for 19 over jumps, but he is essentially a two-miler. He shapes as if he will be better over further, but that doesn’t always follow, and he has to prove that he can stay this trip of two miles and five furlongs, he has never been beyond two and a quarter miles in his life. Also, on the only occasion on which he raced over fences at Ascot, he jumped to his left. He did lead that day, and he may be straighter when he is in behind Cyrname, but we don’t know that he will.
Cyrname has come a bit from left-field, but his last two runs last season were both over today’s course and distance, and they were the two best runs of his life. He is now rated 1lb superior to Altior.
He is back at a track on which he excels, over his optimum trip, and on ground that he relishes. And he will have it all to himself up front. And he is only seven, he is two years younger than Altior, he has more potential.
The only slight worry is that this is his seasonal debut, and he has often not been at his best on his seasonal debut in the past. As against that, however, this is a big day for him, and it would be surprising if Paul Nicholls had left many screws untightened. All of that is factored into his odds anyway.
CYRNAME WON (SP 5/2)
