Kynren
5th-Oct-2019
I thought that Kynren was deserving of another chance.
He is a horse who doesn’t win as often as his talent suggests he should. He has won just three times, and not since September 2017, but he has finished second or third nine times. That is a frustrating record.
He is often well backed, as he was last time in a one-mile handicap at Ayr, when he was sent off as 7/4 favourite and came up short again. But I thought that he ran well in that race. He came under pressure early on the good ground, but he stuck to his task well, he stayed on to finish second to Waarif, who had won the same race last year.
That was over a mile on good ground. He should be far happier on today’s soft ground. And seven furlongs on soft ground, at Ascot, is close to optimum for him. He goes well at Ascot, he finished fifth in a Balmoral Handicap and in a Royal Hunt Cup, and he was only just beaten by Cape Byron in the Victoria Cup over today’s course and distance back in May, and Cape Byron went out and won the Wokingham next time off a 4lb higher mark.
It is good too that Ben Curtis is back on board. He is a good rider and he has ridden Kynren to his three victories.
There should be a good handicap in Kynren off this type of mark of 101, and he has everything in his favour today really. It is worthwhile giving him another chance. Hopefully there will be no more than one more defection now, we are down to 17 with Makzeem coming out, and Raydiance ran yesterday, so hopefully at least 16 will go to post.
KYNREN WON (ADV 8/1, SP 11/4)
