Search For A Song

15th-Sept-2019

I am taking a chance on Search For A Song here.  It is a big ask, for a three-year-old filly, taking on the hardened older high-class stayers, but she is a talented filly and she is a progressive filly, and it is significant that Dermot Weld is allowing her take her chance in the Irish St Leger.  She had other options this weekend.

I thought that she ran a massive race in the Irish Oaks.  She was keen and free early on, which was understandable, because the pace was sedate, and it was just her third run ever.  She really should have faded out of it when they quickened, given the energy that she must have expended but, on the contrary, she kept on well to take fourth place.

She stepped forward from that last time to win the Listed Galtres Stakes at York.  She stayed on well that day to beat a useful filly of Sir Michael Stoute’s in Vivionn, and she shaped as if she could do even better stepped up in trip.

That was just her fourth run so, while she has a fair bit to find on official ratings today with Cross Counter and Kew Gardens, she has buckets of potential for progression, especially now as she steps up in trip.  She is regally bred, by Galileo out of Polished Gem, and therefore a three-parts sister to Prince of Wales’s winner Free Eagle.

Three-year-olds do not have a good record in the Irish Leger at first glance, but only 10 three-year-olds have run in the race in the last decade, and two of them won, with three-year-olds finishing first and second last year.

I think that the Moyglare filly will run well.  I think that she is under-rated and over-priced.
