Glorious Journey

17th-Aug-2019

I thought that Glorious Journey was a big price in the Hungerford Stakes.  He ran far better than the bare form of his run in the July Cup last time suggests.  He missed the break, and he had to go fast to take up a prominent position in the near-side group.  He led that group and led overall at half way.

In the end, it was too much for him, Ten Sovereigns had too much in hand out in the centre, and he faded.  But he had clocked impressive fractions through the hottest part of the race, a Group 1 race, a July Cup.

The step up to seven furlongs is probably a positive for Charlie Appleby’s horse.  He won a Group 3 race at Deauville last year over a mile and he ran Limato to a neck in a Group 3 race at Newmarket in June over seven furlongs.  He is progressive, and he is proven on easy ground.

We have a few old friends in here.  Sir Dancealot and Hey Gaman both have chances, and Flaming Spear is interesting at a bigger price.  He will go on the ground, and he ran well in the Lennox Stakes on his seasonal debut last time.  He wouldn’t have to improve a lot on that to take him into the mix.  But we are well ahead of the market with Glorious Journey, and I am happy to rely on him.
