Anna Nerium
1st-Jun-2019
I think that Anna Nerium has a big chance of winning this. She went close last year, she was only beaten three parts of a length by the high-class Wilamina, and you can easily argue that she might have won had the race panned out a little differently.
She was held up last of the eight runners that day. That’s her running style, she does like to come from behind, but she was squeezed out of it a little at the start last year, she was probably further back than she needed to be. It looked like she had no chance of winning passing the furlong pole, but she stayed on really well and got very close to the classy winner.
She was only three last year, and she was carrying a 3lb penalty. She is a year older this year, and she has no penalty.
It is probable that trainer Richard Hannon has had this race in mind for her for a while, and she shaped really encouragingly last time at Goodwood. Again, she finished off her race strongly down the outside, and just failed to catch Awesometank. It is reasonable to think that she can come forward for that, her second run of the season, with this race in mind.
ANNA NERIUM WON (ADV 11/2, SP 9/2)
