Mohaather

13th-Apr-2019

It is a pity that Too Darn Hot defected from the Greenham Stakes, but it did leave the race with a good betting shape.  Mohaather was under-rated when he sprang a 33/1 shock in the Horris Hill last October, and it may be that the market has under-rated him again.

He was the second string of owner Sheikh Hamdan in October, Jim Crowley rode Fanaar instead, but there was no fluke about the performance.  He travelled well to the two-furlong pole, he picked up nicely to challenge the leaders, he was brave enough to go through a narrow enough gap and he came clear of Azano, who in turn came clear of the rest.

The form looks solid, with Fanaar coming out and winning a listed race at Lingfield on his debut this season, and with last-placed You Never Can Tell winning a novices’ race at Newcastle on his next run.

It is probable that Mohaather will come on for that run and, while you have to trust a horse’s fitness on his seasonal debut at this stage of the season, the Guineas is only three weeks away, and he holds an entry, so if that is an aspiration he should be straight enough today.

MOHAATHER WON (ADV 5/1, SP 9/2)
