Eddiemaurice

27th-Dec-2018

It is a tricky card at Kempton today, but I think that Eddiemaurice is a bet in the concluding handicap hurdle.

John Flint’s horse finished a very good second to Kayf Grace in this race last year off a mark of 121, so the fact that he is able to race off a mark of 119 today gives him an obvious chance.

He didn’t go forward from last year’s good run last season.  He was well beaten at Cheltenham in January off a mark of 125, and he was beaten again at Chepstow in February.

Given a nice break after two runs on the flat in May, he ran well for a long way on his debut this term at Lingfield three weeks ago.  That run should bring him forward nicely for today, and it would not be surprising if his trainer has had this race in mind for him again for a while, given how well he ran in the race last year.  He finished a close-up fifth in the race too in 2016.

Pacific De Baune is an obvious danger, and Romanor could out-run big odds, but Eddiemaurice is the bet.

EDDIEMAURICE WON (SP 9/1)
