Morando
27th-Oct-2018
I do like Young Rascal. He did us a favour in the Chester Vase and he battled on well to win last time at Newbury, leaving the impression that he could come on for that, his first run since the Derby. It would not be at all surprising to see him win today.
I just thought that Morando was interesting, stepping up to a mile and a half for the first time, and on his favoured easy ground.
There is plenty of speed in his pedigree, but he stays 10 furlongs well, and he leaves the impression that he could improve for stepping up in trip to 12 furlongs.
He was good in winning a listed race on easy ground at Windsor on his debut last season, and he has run some good races in defeat since, on easy ground. He was disappointing at Royal Ascot this year, in the Wolferton Stakes, and in a listed race on Eclipse weekend at Sandown, but both of those runs were on fast ground. He was much better last time at Ayr, back on easy ground. He stayed on well that day to finish a close-up third behind Dolphin Vista, with the pair of them coming nicely clear of their rivals.
If the step up to a mile and a half brings about even a little bit of improvement, that could take him close.
