Summerghand

9th-Jun-2018

Summerghand is favourite for this, but he is 4/1 favourite and I think that it is worth backing him at that.

David O’Meara’s horse has been progressive this year, since he has been gelded.  He just beat Merhoob at Chelmsford on his debut and, a close second behind Reputation at Ripon last month, he probably put up the best performance of his life in winning a six-furlong handicap at Doncaster on fast ground three weeks ago off a mark of 84.

The handicapper has raised him by 6lb for that win, but that was merited.  He had to do a lot of running on his own on the near side to catch and pass the leader Dirchill.  You would have liked for the race to have worked out a little better than it has so far, but Summerghand was impressive in making up the ground, and he appeared to win with plenty in hand.

He is only four, he is relatively lightly raced for a sprinter, and he has a nice progressive profile now.  He goes well on fast ground, six furlongs is his trip, and the excellent Daniel Tudhope takes over in the saddle again.  He has lots in his favour.

SUMMERGHAND WON (ADV 4/1)
