Mustashry
26th-Aug-2017
There is not much between Mondialiste and Mustashry in theory, it is correct that the two of them dominate the market, but I would have had Mustashry in as clear favourite, and I am backing him at 3/1.
A progressive three-year-old last season, Sir Michael Stoute’s horse did not appear this year until he ran in the Betfred Mile at Glorious Goodwood earlier this month, when he ran much better than his finishing position in 10th place suggests. He was hampered at the two-furlong pole and he didn’t have much room inside the final furlong, yet he was only beaten a total of four lengths. It was a really encouraging comeback run.
He built on that last time at Chelmsford 11 days ago, when he finished off his race strongly to get up and beat Masham Star by a half a length, giving him a stone, coming from the rear off a moderate pace.
The handicapper raised him just 3lb for that, it probably should have been more, but it still puts him within 3lb of Mondialiste. He has the potential to go higher still. He has raced just nine times in his life and just twice this season, he has lots of scope for progression.
Also, he goes well at York, he finished second behind Firmament in the Clipper Logistics Handicap at this meeting last year, and that is a significant asset. He should be suited by the step up to nine furlongs, and he could run a big race.
Mondialiste sets a good standard, and Sovereign Debt is a danger if you ignore his latest run in the Summer Mile, even conceding all the weight. However, Mustashry has the potential to go higher than both of those older horses, and he is the bet.
MUSTASHRY WON (ADV 3/1, SP 5/2)
