Nezwaah

2nd-Jul-2017

Zhukova is obviously a high-class filly, but the ground may not be as soft as she likes it and the 10-furlong trip could be on the sharp side.  Also, her only win at the highest level to date was in the Man o’ War Stakes in America last time in a weakened contest, she is going to have to step forward again today if she is going to win.  She may well do that, but she is priced up as if she is already there.

Journey is also a high-class filly, but she was disappointing on her debut this season in the Coronation Cup.  She does come on for her seasonal debut, she was beaten in the Middleton Stakes on her debut last season too, but she was strong in the market before the Epsom race, and she was well beaten.  Also, she may have plenty of competition up front today, and she is short.

… Nezwaah has plenty to find on the book, she is officially rated 11lb inferior to Journey, but she has bundles of scope for progression.

She shaped with lots of promise last season, she won a listed race at Newcastle on this weekend last year, and she finished second, beaten just a half a length by the high-class So Mi Dar, in a listed race at Yarmouth on her final run in Britain last season.  And you can easily allow her her run in the Grade 1 EP Taylor Stakes at Woodbine, her final run of the season, as she missed the kick and was always playing catch-up (and was only beaten two lengths).

She shaped like a classy filly and an improved filly in easily landing a listed race at Ayr on her debut this season.  That should have brought her forward nicely for today’s race.

Roger Varian does not tend to over-face his horses, especially his fillies, so it is interesting that he is coming here for a Group 1 race.  Nezwaah would have had other potential targets, including the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot, a Group 2 contest.  This is a Group 1, and her trainer obviously believes that she belongs in this grade.

NEZWAAH WON (ADV 11/1, SP 13/2)
