Best Solution

8th-Oct-2017

I am backing Best Solution in the Autumn Stakes.

The Godolphin colt has been nicely progressive this season.  After wining his maiden at Glorious Goodwood at the end of July, he did well to finish third in a Group 3 race in Turkey on their big international weekend after missing the break and taking a little while to get going.

He was unlucky last time too in the Group 3 Tattersalls Somerville Stakes at Newmarket.  He was hampered twice in the Dip as Whitecliffsofdover wandered around in front of him, and he made ground on the leaders against the stands rail all the way to the line.

He only finished fourth that day, but he was beaten a total of just a length and a quarter, and it is not stretching it to say that he might have won had he had a clear run through the final furlong.

That was a strong juveniles’ race, it always is, and Whitecliffsofdover did not let the form down when he finished third in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Chantilly on Sunday.

That was Best Solution’s first attempt at seven furlongs, he saw it out well, and he shaped as if the step up to a mile today would bring about further improvement.  He is bred to improve for the step up in trip too, he is from the family of St Leger winner Brian Boru and his family is all middle distance.

The Anvil is very interesting, he was only just beaten by Best Of Days in the Royal Lodge last time and he is from the all-conquering stable of Aidan O’Brien, but he is priced up accordingly.  Montataire is also interesting on the form of his penultimate run at Salisbury, but Best Solution is the bet.EndFragment
