One Track Mind

28th-Apr-2016

One Track Mind has plenty to find on official ratings with the top two, but there are reasons for believing that he can get close.  A good novice last season, although not without his quirks, he has stepped forward considerably this term.

He stayed on strongly to win a two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle at Newbury in December on soft ground, clocking a good time, just 0.16secs/furlong slower than Racing Post par.  Then he stepped forward from that to finish second to Reve De Sivola in the Rendlesham Hurdle at Haydock in February on heavy ground over almost three miles.

He stayed on all the way to the line that day to get to within three parts of a length of Reve De Sivola.  He was getting 8lb from the winner, but we know that Reve De Sivola is a high-class performer on heavy ground.

It is interesting that trainer Warren Greatrex said after that race that One Track Mind would be even better on better ground, and it is more interesting that he mentioned putting him away after that and taking him to Punchestown.  So this is his objective, he has skipped Cheltenham and Aintree in order to come here, and that is significant.  He should be primed for a career-best performance today, and that could be good enough to take him close.

ONE TRACK MIND WON (ADV 12/1, SP 10/1)
