Ptit Zig
23rd-Apr-2016
I think that Vroum Vroum Mag is very good, and she still has bags of potential, but she is very short here, taking on some high-class performers, and I am backing Ptit Zig against her at 6/1.
Paul Nicholls’ horse was a top class hurdler two seasons ago, and he morphed into a high-class novice chaser last season. He started this season impressively at Down Royal over fences, and he wasn’t beaten far by Vautour at Ascot in November, but his season started to unravel a little when he fell in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon in December.
Returned to hurdles after he unseated at Kempton in January, he ran a good race in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham in January to finish second behind Thistlecrack on ground that should have been softer than ideal and over three miles, which should have been further than ideal.
He has had a nice break since then and, a winner on this day three years ago, he will appreciate the return to better ground and the drop back in trip. He is a high-class performer, he could still be better over hurdles than he is over fences, and he is over-priced in my book.
PTIT ZIG WON (ADV 6/1 [R4], SP 7/4)
