Different Gravey
20th-Feb-2016
I think that the top two in the market are shorter than they should be. I think that a hike of 11lb was harsh for Debdebdeb’s narrow defeat of Harley Rebel at Kempton last time and, while Montdragon is a progressive young hurdler, he is fashionable, and he should not be as short as he is relative to his rivals in my book ...
Different Gravey is making his seasonal debut, and that is a little bit of a worry, only because it comes so close to Cheltenham, and there is a chance that this is merely a stepping stone to Cheltenham. That said, these days top trainers like Nicky Henderson can get them fit at home no problem, and he shouldn’t be far short of peak fitness anyway, with Cheltenham so close.
As well as that, Different Gravey goes well fresh. He won his point-to-point on his debut between the flags, and he won his maiden hurdle on his debut under Rules last November.
He was seriously progressive last season, he won three of his four hurdle races, his seasonal culminating in an impressive victory in a decent novices’ hurdle at Ayr in April. He handles soft ground well, and a mark of 149 is fair for his handicap debut. It is worth taking a chance on his fitness at 8/1 because, if he is fit, he should go very close.
DIFFERENT GRAVEY WON (ADV 8/1, SP 5/1)
