Mr Win

10th-Jul-2015

I would have had Mr Win in as favourite in front of Amazour for this, and I am backing him at 7/1.  He has an awful lot in his favour.  He was a progressive three-year-old last season, and he has continued that progression this season so far.

On his penultimate run, his second run of the season, he ran a cracker to get to within a half a length of another progressive four-year-old Fiftyshadesofgrey.  He meets that rival on 3lb better terms today but, more importantly, Mr Win has gone on again since then.

His last run was over today’s course and distance when, racing off just a 1lb higher mark than his Goodwood mark, he finished second to Majestic Moon, beaten just a length.  It took him a little while to get into the clear that day, but he finished well when he did.  A 2lb hike for that was not harsh but, as a bonus, he gets to race off his old mark of 93 today.  The winner was raised 5lb and Mr Win could have been raised by more.

As importantly, he is proven at the track.  That run was a career-best, and on his only previous run on the July Course, he won a three-year-olds’ six-furlong handicap last August.  Chris Wall’s horses are in top form – he had another winner at Newbury last night – and William Buick is an interesting booking.  The rider has a 23% strike rate for Wall over the last five years, and he rode a double at Newmarket yesterday.
MR WIN WON (ADV 7/1, SP 5/1)
