Free Eagle
17th-Jun-2015
There is no rocket science to Free Eagle, it is just worth getting him on side at 3/1. I would have had him in as a 2/1 or 7/4 shot.
The fact that he is available at 3/1 is a little bit of a concern in itself, but the case for him is compelling. He has the best form in the race, achieved on ground that was far too soft for him, and he has raced just four times in his life, so he has the potential to be a fair bit better than he has been able to show so far.
Both Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen hold him in the highest regard, he could be a true superstar, and this is not a great renewal of the Prince of Wales’s Stakes.
He may not be at concert pitch, he missed the Tattersalls Gold Cup and the Coronation Cup this season already, but Weld has no problem missing races with his top horses if he is not sure that they are ready to run, and Free Eagle goes well fresh. He won on his racecourse debut, and he won again on his debut last year. He is a really exciting young colt, fast ground and 10 furlongs suit him well, and he ran a big race on heavy ground in the Champion Stakes last year on his only run at Ascot.
FREE EAGLE WON (ADV 3/1, SP 5/2)
