Killultagh Vic

13th-Mar-2015

I am backing Killultagh Vic this morning at 12/1. He looks to be on a good mark of 135 and, as a horse who has shaped as though he would improve for a stiffer test of stamina, he should be well suited by this race, in which they usually go hard up front. Stamina could be an even bigger factor than usual today if the rain continues.

Killultagh Vic ran well in the Champion Bumper last season to finish sixth when things didn’t really go his way. He was still only beaten five lengths, which is a really promising run in the context of today’s race, and he has been shaping over hurdles like there is much more to come from him at some point.

He won well enough at very short odds over two and a half miles at Clonmel before finding L’Ami Serge much too quick over two miles at Ascot. He didn't jump brilliantly in rear in the Grade 2 novice hurdle at Leopardstown won by Outlander on his most recent run, and he wasn't in a great position the way the race developed, but he picked up quite nicely from the second last flight and stayed on down the outside in the home straight to finish third, half a length ahead of Wednesday’s Neptune Hurdle winner Windsor Park.

I like the booking of Luke Dempsey, hopefully he can get Killultagh Vic to jump well in the early stages, and he should be staying on well late on. He is well worth backing at a double-figure price.
