We Are
5th-Oct-2014
We Are is over-priced in my book at 6/1 or 11/2 for the Prix de l’Opera.
Freddy Head’s filly has had to miss a large chunk of the season. She was found to have been found to be suffering from an ovarian tumour after she was disqualified from first place in the Prix Saint Alary in May due to abnormal levels of testosterone. She was also disqualified from first place in a conditions race at Saint-Cloud earlier that month.
Given that, and the four months that she had been off, it was understandable that she would have needed her most recent run in a listed race at Longchamp. As well as that, the trip was on the short side and she was held up off a steady pace. Nothing went right for her there and, although she only finished sixth of seven, she was beaten just two and a half lengths and she closed on the leaders late on.
It could well be a different story today. She should have come on appreciably for that run, as presumably she had missed work having been treated for the tumour, and she will be far better suited by the return to a mile and a quarter and the likely stronger pace. Should she return to the sort of form that saw her rout her field in the Group 1 Prix Saint Alary in May over this course and distance on just her third run ever, just six weeks after she had made her debut, she will be hard to beat today. At current odds, it is worth taking the chance that she can.
Tarfasha obviously sets a high standard, and old friend Sultanina has a chance, but We Are is the one who is over-priced in my book.
