Ansgar

13th-Sept-2014

I think that both Aljamaaheer and Gregorian are horses to be slightly wary of today. Aljamaaheer is an old friend, but he is starting to look like a little bit of a nearly horse, while the ground may be a little fast for Gregorian. At a shade of odds on coupled, I think it is worth taking the pair of them on.

Es Que Love is solid and probably has his optimum conditions, but a 4lb penalty for his Lennox Stakes win makes it tough, and I am backing Ansgar instead. Sabrina Harty’s horse is just an under-rated horse. Winner of Group 3 races over seven furlongs on quickish ground on two of his last three runs at 8/1 and 14/1, he looks to have been under-rated a little again today, Perhaps because he hails from a small Irish yard, or because he is six.

He has developed into a really consistent performer on decent ground over seven furlongs, exactly the conditions he has today. Also, Sabrina Harty has had her horses in top form all summer, and Kalann ran out of his skin in the Doncaster Cup yesterday. There is every chance Ansgar could improve a little again.

He was a smooth winner of the Supreme Stakes at Goodwood last month, he travelled well for today’s rider James Doyle and put the race to be bed nicely when required. He should get a good tow into today’s race again from Penitent and That Is The Spirit.

He doesn’t have much to find at all with the two at the top of the market, he has his conditions and he is likely to run his race. He is worth backing at 7/1.

ANSGAR WON (ADV 7/1, SP 7/2)
