Broadway Buffalo
10th-May-2014
Broadway Buffalo shaped nicely in the Pertemps Final. Ridden quite patiently, he got shuffled even further back coming to the top of the hill and he was just always too far back, with his rider probably unsure of the horse's stamina. He was no better than 14th turning for home, but he stayed on well without really having the clearest of runs to finish eighth, and he was still going on at the line.
Now that they know he stays three miles, he doesn't have to be ridden so conservatively over this trip – he is often ridden very prominently over shorter – and that could see him to better effect. Two and a half miles on good ground at a sharp track was too sharp for him last time, but he was still in contention over the second last until he got outpaced.
He has been dropped another 1lb after that, he is 2lb lower than the mark off which he was beaten only six lengths in the Pertemps Final (a race that is working out really well), the softening ground is probably in his favour, and he could go close back up at three miles today.
BROADWAY BUFFALO WON (ADV 12/1, SP 5/1)
