Magic City
24th-Aug-2013
I am backing Magic City again here. We backed him when he won the seven-furlong handicap at Glorious Goodwood, and I think he has a good chance of winning again, a better chance than odds of 6/1 suggest.
He was poorly drawn last time and, while they came down the middle of the track and ended up close to the stands rail, he travelled into the race really well. Richard Hughes didn’t get serious with him until well inside the final furlong, and he ultimately won quite readily from an in-form Alejandro, who has won since, beating the progressive Frog Hollow at Musselburgh.
Magic City has been raised 7lb for that win, and he has now gone up a total of 17lb since his win at Goodwood in May, but the hikes to which he was subjected for his first two wins of the season were both lenient, and it is quite possible that he is still a little way ahead of his new mark of 97. He was highly regarded as a juvenile, and he is only now fulfilling his potential.
He has a better draw today than he had last time, the little bit of rain that is forecast at Goodwood should leave the ground perfect for him, there is almost certain to be a strong pace, which suits him well, and it is easy to see him going very well once again.
MAGIC CITY WON (ADV 13/2, SP 13/2)
