Move In Time

13th-Apr-2013

I am also backing Move In Time (as well as Jack Dexter) … He was another nicely progressive sprinter for Bryan Smart in 2011, but he completely lost his way last term. However, a move to David O’Meara and a gelding operation seem to have done the trick, and he shaped like the Move In Time of old in easily landing a five-furlong handicap at Musselburgh on his debut this season.

That was just a Class 4 contest, but it was the manner in which he did it that impressed, picking up nicely on the near side and coming clear, with David Nolan easing him down close home. He had much more in hand than the five-length winning margin.

The handicapper has raised him 10lb for that, but he had dropped 17lb in the ratings because of his disappointing campaign last season, so today’s mark of 95 is still 7lb lower than his peak. If he can even reproduce his form of 2011 today, he is potentially 7lb well-in, and there is a chance that he can be better than he was in 2011, given how progressive he was then and the fact that he was only a three-year-old.

The potential negative about Move In Time is the distance. All his best form is over five furlongs. However, he wasn’t beaten far in the Listed Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar over six furlongs as a juvenile, he won his maiden over six furlongs, and he didn’t appear to be coming anywhere near the end of his tether over Musselbrurgh’s five furlongs on easy ground last time. There is every chance that, as a five-year-old, he can be at least as effective over six furlongs as he is over five and, if he is, he has a big chance today.

MOVE IN TIME WON (ADV 8/1, SP 7/1)
