West End Rocker
3rd-Dec-2011
West End Rocker progressed through the middle of last season, winning a handicap chase at Newbury in December and then landing the Classic Chase at Warwick in January. He was pulled up in the Grand National Trial at Haydock on his next run, but that may have been because he hadn’t fully recovered from his Warwick exertions by then.
He was running a cracker in the Grand National, he was actually jumping the fences really well, before he was badly hampered at Becher’s Brook and brought down, and that augurs well for today’s challenge.
You can easily forgive his seasonal debut at Cheltenham this term. The Grand National is again his objective, and he probably would have needed his debut quite badly, as a lot of the Alan King horses do, and as his weakness in the market suggested. He should be a lot straighter for today’s contest, and the fact that the handicapper has dropped him 3lb to a mark of 137 is no harm at all.
WEST END ROCKER WON (ADV 14/1, SP 10/1)
