Doncaster Rover
20th-Aug-2011King Torus was a high class juvenile last season, but I am a little surprised that he is favourite in this tough race on his belated seasonal debut given that the ground is still probably going to be on the easy side.
I am taking him on with Doncaster Rover. David Brown’s horse is continually under-rated, he is a dual listed race winner and he has run really well in a couple of Group 2 contests most recently, finishing just three lengths behind Strong Suit at Goodwood and then finishing in a high class ruck behind Excelebration in the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury last Saturday. He couldn’t get close to Excelebration, but he is probably a Group 1 horse now, and Doncaster Rover was right up there with Beacon Lodge, who is high class over seven furlongs on easy ground, and Dubawi Gold, a dual Guineas runner-up.
He is sure to appreciate the drop back down to listed company, seven furlongs on easy ground is his optimum, his trainer reports him in good form and the booking of Silvestre de Sousa is a positive. He looks over-priced at 7/1.
