Misty For Me
25th-Jun-2011
Midday sets the standard here of course, but I think, after the withdrawal of Snow Fairy, she has been put in too short now. It rained hard at The Curragh yesterday evening, it was genuinely soft ground by the time the last race was run, and that is not going to play to Midday’s strengths. She did finish third in an Irish Oaks on soft ground, and she won a Nassau Stakes on soft ground, but all her good form – the form on which she is priced up today at long odds-on – has been on fast ground. On top of that, she is five now, we know exactly how good she is, she is not improving, and she just may be vulnerable to an improving three-year-old.
This is not a great race for three-year-old fillies, they have won it just three times in the last 10 years, but they do get 12lb from their elders, and that gives them a chance ... Misty For Me won the Prix Marcel Boussac last year on soft ground, and she battled on really well to win the Irish Guineas. She did disappoint in the Oaks subsequently, but she just didn’t seem to see out the 12 furlongs that day. As against that, she looked like she wanted further than a mile when she won the Irish Guineas, so this intermediate trip could be ideal. She is a classy filly, she is progressive, she likes soft ground and she is proven at The Curragh.
MISTY FOR ME WON (MP 7/2, SP 100/30)
