Julienas

15th-June-2011

Julienas is also worth backing at 16/1 or 18/1. We put him up as a horse to follow after he finished second in a handicap at Sandown at the end of April, but it appeared that plenty of other people did as well, and he started favourite for a good handicap back over the same course and distance on Brigadier Gerard evening. However, it rained that evening at Sandown, and turned the ground on the easy side, which wouldn’t have suited Julienas at all, so he actually ran remarkably well to finish third behind Dunn’o and Leviathan, second on the near side behind Leviathan with Dunn’o ploughing his lone furrow on the far side.

Julienas has raced just eight times in his life, so he still has plenty of scope for progression. He gets to race today off a mark of 93, the same as his last run and just 1lb higher than the mark off which he raced on his seasonal debut, and he has good form on Polytrack, which is no liability to carry into an Ascot race. He is a prominent racer, and it is difficult to make all in a Hunt Cup, but hopefully Eddie Ahern will be able to settle him just behind the pace. His draw in stall 24 is good, and Ahern is riding with a lot of confidence these days.

JULIENAS WON (ADV 18/1, SP 12/1)
